Code of Conduct
Last updated: February 13, 2026
Our Mission
PrideDMR exists to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ amateur radio operators and allies. We are committed to creating an environment free from discrimination, harassment, and hate.
1. Be Respectful and Inclusive
All members of our community deserve respect and dignity:
- Respect all gender identities and expressions
- Use people's correct names and pronouns
- Be welcoming to newcomers and those learning about LGBTQIA+ topics
- Recognize that our community includes people of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels
- Assume good faith and give others the benefit of the doubt
2. Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech
The following behaviors will result in immediate removal from the Network:
- Homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, or any anti-LGBTQIA+ speech or behavior
- Racism, sexism, ableism, or discrimination based on any protected characteristic
- Slurs, epithets, or derogatory language targeting any group
- Deliberate misgendering or "deadnaming"
- Advocating for harm against any group or individual
- Promoting conversion therapy or other harmful practices
This is a zero-tolerance policy. First offense results in permanent ban.
3. No Harassment or Bullying
Harassment creates an unsafe environment and is strictly prohibited:
- Personal attacks or insults
- Unwanted sexual attention or advances
- Stalking or following users across talkgroups
- Doxxing or sharing personal information without consent
- Repeated unwanted contact after being asked to stop
- Intimidation, threats, or aggressive behavior
4. Respect Privacy and Boundaries
- Do not "out" anyone's LGBTQIA+ identity without explicit permission
- Respect that people may be at different stages of being out
- Do not share information about others outside the Network without consent
- Respect people's boundaries when they decline to discuss personal topics
- Be mindful that transmissions may be heard by unintended audiences
5. Keep Conversations Appropriate
While we're an adult community, maintain appropriate boundaries:
- Explicit sexual content is not appropriate for general talkgroups
- Discussions of relationships and experiences should be tasteful
- Political discussions should be respectful and not attack other users
- Avoid topics that are intentionally inflammatory or divisive
- Remember that amateur radio has specific content restrictions
6. Amateur Radio Best Practices
- Identify your transmissions as required by your license
- Don't kerchunk or test excessively - use the parrot (TG 9990)
- Wait for others to finish before transmitting
- Keep transmissions reasonably brief on busy talkgroups
- Use appropriate talkgroups for different topics
- Assist new operators who may not understand DMR etiquette
7. Handle Conflicts Constructively
Disagreements happen, but handle them maturely:
- If someone's behavior bothers you, try talking to them privately first
- Don't air personal disputes on talkgroups
- Contact moderators if you can't resolve an issue
- Accept that not everyone will agree on everything
- Know when to disengage from an unproductive conversation
8. Support and Uplift Others
Be the kind of community member you'd want to meet:
- Welcome new members and help them feel at home
- Share knowledge and help others learn
- Celebrate others' achievements and milestones
- Offer support to those going through difficult times
- Amplify marginalized voices within our community
- Stand up for others when you witness harmful behavior
9. Reporting Violations
If you experience or witness a Code of Conduct violation:
- Contact network moderators through Discord or the web interface
- Provide details: who was involved, what happened, when it occurred
- Include talkgroup and approximate time if relevant
- All reports will be taken seriously and investigated promptly
- We protect reporters from retaliation
10. Consequences for Violations
Depending on the severity and frequency of violations:
- Minor infractions: Warning and education
- Repeated violations: Temporary suspension (3-30 days)
- Serious violations: Permanent ban from the Network
- Hate speech or harassment: Immediate permanent ban
We reserve the right to remove anyone who creates an unsafe environment, regardless of whether specific rules were broken.
11. For Allies
We welcome straight, cisgender allies! Here's how to be a good ally:
- Listen and learn from LGBTQIA+ community members
- Speak up when you witness discrimination, even when no LGBTQIA+ people are present
- Don't expect LGBTQIA+ people to educate you - do your own research
- Recognize that this is a space centered on LGBTQIA+ voices
- Support LGBTQIA+ leadership and decision-making in the community
- Acknowledge your privilege and use it to make space for others
12. Content Warnings
When discussing potentially triggering topics, provide a brief warning:
- Violence or abuse
- Mental health crises
- Medical procedures or details
- Discrimination experiences
Example: "Content warning: I'm about to discuss family rejection" before sharing your story.
Remember
This network was built because LGBTQIA+ operators deserve a space where they can be themselves without fear. Every user has a responsibility to maintain that safety.
Your callsign is attached to everything you transmit. Represent yourself and our community with pride. 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️
